A friend of mine looked at the first draft of my site and said that I need to tell people that I'm the person who actually designed and/or drew these panels.  That was funny to me.  I thought that was implied but OK, I'll play along.  Like I'm introducing myself at a 12-step program: "Hello, my name is Mary Lou, AKA THATARTGIRL.  I drew and designed all of these panels.”  She was afraid that they might appear like I used pre-made images or stencils.  Nope.  All of this work is mine.  Sometimes I use In-Desgin to design lettering, overall composition placement, or geometric elements, but everything else is drawn by YOURS TRULY.  Old school.  By hand.  At the time of this writing, I’m hand-transferring my designs onto the panels myself, but I have my husband figuring out how to silkscreen in the basement.  We’re slowly but surely getting ready for the next step.

As part of the Love+Light Collection, I bring you: INSIGHT.  For this piece, I used a variety of flesh tones all in one hand.  I like the message it represents.  The Hamsa Hand is an ancient Middle Eastern amulet symbolizing the Hand of God. In all faiths it is a protective sign. It brings its owner happiness, luck, health, and good fortune. The hamsa hand has a wide variety of different spellings which includes hamesh, hamsa, chamsa, and khamsa. (source: Google Search).  Recently I’ve been interested in symbols from different world religions (that’s what we called it in Catholic School, anyway!). I also used a true blue outline around the hand.  It’s the same blue that forms a halo around the stars.  Set against my favorite neutral (a combination of cobalt blue and burnt Sienna), the blue looks almost electric.  The other colors in the piece: yellow, peach, aqua and red are a wonderful contrast against the dark neutral background.  This is a great piece to add to any dorm room, yoga studio or classroom.  It’s serves as a reminder of what we can strive towards to reach the best versions of ourselves.

FYI, bringing this work to you, being an artist, joyfully putting my vision into the world…..that’s the very best version of MYSELF.  Thanks for being a part of it!
